Ted Ward

Membership Director

Ted Ward joined Shafer Leadership Academy as the Membership Director in July 2023. In this role, Ted focuses on deepening relationships with existing member organizations and connecting new members to the region’s premier professional development organization.

Ted brings extensive experience in strategic leadership, adult learning, coaching, training, teaching, entrepreneurship, research, analysis, and customer service. He spent over 23 years at Ball State University, where he served in various student and faculty coaching and support roles, culminating as the Executive Director for Learner Experience.

Ted holds a leadership coaching business, Achieve Onward, and is set to complete his doctorate in philosophy with a focus on leadership from the University of the Cumberland within the year. His mission is to inspire and support the growth and development of those he influences, aligning perfectly with his role at Shafer Leadership Academy.

Ted’s responsibilities include serving as the primary contact for member organizations and attracting new members. He facilitates access to SLA’s offerings, such as coffee talks, lunch and learns, workshops, and discounts on the signature Emergence program, an interactive eight-week leadership course. SLA Executive Director Mitch Isaacs has commended Ted’s unique combination of skills and his proven success in growing membership for the Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana.

Ted is also actively involved in community service. He has facilitated programs like the Tipton Youth Leadership Program, engaging youth to address community issues through service projects. Ted believes that everyone has the capacity to lead and emphasizes developing a leadership mindset early in life.

Ted is excited to connect with organizational leaders across various industries, including manufacturing, higher education, nonprofits, associations, and service sectors. His commitment to leadership development and community engagement makes him a valuable asset to Shafer Leadership Academy and the broader community.
