June 3, 2013, Muncie IN – The Shafer Leadership Academy, East Central Indiana’s Community Leadership Academy, recently announced a new community partnership with the United Way of Delaware County (UWDC). The partnership will focus specifically on volunteer recruitment and engagement in Delaware County.
The United Way of Delaware County engages the community to improve lives by focusing resources on education, income & health. They work to build a strong, healthy community by strategically investing in quality programs, building partnerships, advocating for better policies, and engaging people in our community to give, advocate, and volunteer.
The Shafer Leadership Academy’s CONVERGE website (www.convergeeci.com) is designed as a “volunteer job board” with post and search capabilities for volunteer opportunities in East Central Indiana. The CONVERGE website offers individuals an online database of hundreds of volunteer openings currently available in the region based on location, organization type, opportunity type, and commitment length. The site’s functionality allows volunteers to more easily find the opportunities that fit their passions and skills. The volunteer openings are posted free of charge by nonprofit organizations and the site is open to all registered non-profit organizations in Delaware, Grant, Jay, Blackford, Madison, Randolph, and Henry Counties. In addition to the extensive list of volunteer openings listed on the CONVERGE site, visitors can also review profiles of non-profit organizations and individual volunteers from throughout East Central Indiana.
Through this strategic partnership, CONVERGE will function as the volunteer opportunity portal for the United Way of Delaware County, while the UWDC website at www.invitedtoliveunited.org will allow visitors expressly interested in Delaware County or United Way specific volunteer openings a central location for accessing this information.
“The purpose of the partnership is to connect individuals and groups with not-for-profit organizations and volunteer opportunities in Delaware County and to do it without duplicating services,” said Karen Hemberger, UWDC’s Interim CEO. “The Shafer Leadership Academy has created a central database of volunteer opportunities in East Central Indiana through the CONVERGE website, so partnering with them was a logical step in fulfilling our goal of engaging volunteers.”
